Description
This dramatic and unusual sculpted vase has a very long neck and a very detailed portrayal of a peacock which has been separately modelled and applied to the basic vessel. The long neck suggests that it may have been intended to hold peacock feathers, a popular domestic decoration at the beginning of the 20th century.
The peacock’s feathers are laid nicely onto the body of the vessel to form a fully integrated design.
The vase has been further painted in enamels with a selection of purple and white (opium) poppies.
This piece has not been fully identified but bears the initials S.G. under the foot.
