Description
This iconic 1960s Belgian design has survived to become a collector’s piece. A new generation of young ceramicists produced handcrafted tile-sets to fit a standardized table size. Dramatic colors could be unleashed, new surfaces and materials used, and a generation of decorative artists found an ideal medium. Each set of tiles was made in serica, that is; each set is unique, but follows a similar design outline, and is limited in numbers.
This coffee table was designed by the noted ceramicist, Juliette Belarti. The tile surfaces have been carefully crafted, using several experimental glazes to contrast the various blue and ochre tints and show both matte and gloss glazes with small areas of iridescence, and lots more for the eye to examine in detail.
Our photographer has tried to capture some of the glazes and surface detail, but feels that the object is more vivid and exciting in reality than the photographs fully reveal.
A great example of the midcentury Belgian approach to swinging design.
No signs of damage or cracks in the ceramics.
The steel legs have the original patina.
