Description
Large decorative alabaster panel with Art Nouveau design. Dramatic high-relief sculpture of daffodils (Jonquils) with leaves and flower heads in 3-D. Such items were typically used as decorative panels in the home. The alabaster has a light cream tint and is contained within a geometric border. This translucent material is in very good condition and would also be suitable for backlighting (or lightbox), which will further accentuate the shadow effect. The high relief also means that the shadows will fall differently as the sun moves during the day.
Surprisingly good condition for it’s age, with no signs of damage to the edge nor cracks in the material. Probably dates to about 1900-1910, although there are no identification marks on the piece.

This item is being sold in original condition and has not been cleaned or restored. We have removed some surface dust with a dry brush without attempting any fluid or abrasive cleaning. This leaves the piece with its original patina and very acceptable ivory colour. Accumulated dust in the relief has added to the sense of depth, and it also highlights the contours of the border, but it is understandable that the new owner may wish to have it more intensively specialist cleaning.
Photography fails to capture the elegance provided by this Panel.
In real life, this panel looks much nicer than in the picture.
In perfect condition.
