Description
Blue and white tea canister. Delft, 1691-1695. Mark: LVE and DW, period Lambertus van Eenhoorn (1691-1721) or his widow Margaretha Teckman (1721-1724) Painter: Jan van der Wal (1662-1695)
The rectangular tea canister is painted in blue on all four sides with floral motifs, the so-called parsley décor. The upper side is also executed in blue and consists of flowers, foliate and scrolls around a short, threaded neck. The tea canister has an eighteenth century English silver cover.
The pottery painter Jan van der Wal was appointed as first painter and foreman at The Metal Pot pottery in 1691. He had already worked in 1685 as a master painter at The Greek A pottery. In 1695 he died at the young age of 33. And therefore all the Delftware he executed at The Metal Pot pottery were painted between 1691 and 1695.
Condition is very good considering age: few glaze chips, especially at the upper edge. Thread with signs of wear.
